Handmade Fabric Printing – beginners

The classes will be taught primarily in English with translations provided for specific terms in French or Danish whenever needed.

Have you ever been curious about the wonders of natural fabric dyeing? Join us as we explore this fascinating craft, using vegetables, plants and simple techniques to create beautiful textile prints. You'll also get to try your hand at marbling, drawing and painting on fabrics.

Throughout the course, we'll focus on using natural dyes sourced from plants and vegetables, along with learning some other printing methods like marbling and hand-printing. We'll mainly work with recycled cotton, linen, bamboo and other natural fibers or animal-based fibers, including silk or wool.

You'll pick up handy tips on prepping fabrics for dyeing, ensuring your colors stay vibrant for longer. Together, we'll experiment with different prints, breathe new life into old textiles through upcycling, and have fun unleashing our creativity. Let's dive into the world of fabric dyeing and get crafty!

Alexandra Hartmann

Uddannelse: I graduated as a sustainable clothing Designer at KEA, Denmark 2013-2015; Course in Textile Design at CSM, London 2010; European Film College, Ebeltoft 2004-2005; Crea Image, University Paris 2004.

Andre faglige kvalifikationer: Founder of Hôtel Vetements, an ethical Fashion brand that upcycles materials since 2017. I also worked for Henrik Vibskov, designing new patterns and prints for their collection and artwork.

Andet: Hôtel Vetements is a French / Danish brand. It was developed with the identity to focus on sustainability and upcycled fabric materials, exploring the art of memory and storytelling, upcycling and creating unique, timeless pieces from antique curated textiles. We are transforming discarded fabrics of very high quality into upcycled handmade one of kind pieces, like curtains from the Ritz Hotel in Paris. These pieces carry stories and are meant to last and to be passed on to the next generation.
