Learn how to paint portraits with oils - art class in FOF Aarhus

Realistic Portrait with oil paints

Master the art of painting realistic portraits and bring character and emotion to life on canvas.

Focus of the class is teaching you how to paint realistically looking faces - get the shape, color, personal characteristics as well as perspective right. Attending this course, you are gaining knowledge and skills that you can apply to any portrait you do afterwards. We will do quick sketches of the model with pen and paper. After that we will paint with the oils on canvas. We will paint a live model.

In this class, you will learn:

  • How to draw a portrait that looks three-dimensional and real.
  • How to use light, shadow, halftone, perspective, cold and warm contrast, color harmony, and color perspective to create the feeling of a real person in your painting.
  • How to control the old paints and how to use other materials needed for the process.

Requirements for the Course

No prior knowledge of oil painting and portrait drawing is required, and participants who have little experience with these are also welcome.

Practical Information

A list of materials will be provided via email before the course. Your materials and the model costs are not included in the course price.

I am teaching both arts and language at FOF Aarhus.

During my higher education, I am trained in teaching arts, and I am an artist too. My specialization is in oil painting and portrait (you can visit my website here).

I have experience in teaching students in different age groups and different levels of proficiency of their art skills, from beginners to people who have chosen art as their professional path in life.

In my art courses I teach realistic painting, including human anatomy in portrait, as well as expressionism.

As a language teacher, I see foreign languages as a cultural bridge between different people. Learning a new language is a way to connect with other nationalities on a more personal level. I've studied a couple of languages myself which gave me a lot of insight into different cultures. I’d love to help people getting to know my language and my culture as well.
